Regionaleye – Videos

“The 15 young people that joined the film group were ambitious to discover all the factors contributing to a feeling of being at “home”, of belonging anywhere. During the workshops and the lectures the participants elaborated the main topics linked to the idea of a regional identity. Many discussions and reflections about their personal point of view went with intensive work on collecting material: sounds and pictures captured in short shoots by the participants using the cameras of their mobile phones or tablets.

The film depicts that there is more than one single answer to the question of what home is. And even the spectrum of emotions seems to be very wide. The film, being a collage of fragments caught by individual participants, radiates peace, happiness and warmth, but also an atmosphere of fear and danger, the threat of losing something existential. This seems to be a current topic not only in history, as the latest occurrence in the world show.

Scenes that have not been used to the main product of this group can be found on this homepage as small individual films.

The group facilitator: Dawid Okoński

“I tried to express my happy feeling towards the symbiosis created in Olsztyn between nature and the man-made part and how one resembles and helps the other. More specifically, the bridge resembles nature, it helps people and they, themselves, help birds by building a birdhouse. It’s an epitome of the Warmia-Mazury region. It has much that comes together. It’s really a region of diversity.”

“As soon as we were allowed to start wandering around to come up with ideas and collect materials, me and Joanna from Poland felt inspired and decided to walk away from the park, trying to capture the real atmosphere of the hometown for many Polish families – or at least our perception of it.”

“The idea behind this video is to represent that each leaf is a human being. All together make a lovely tree. Hence, we wanted to represent it as a tree in which a group of people lives together having one thing in common: local identity. Thereafter, the leaves appear to be moving due to the wind, this represents how every single one of us can be little or a lot affected by external factors in society. At the end the of the video, we can see how the current of the river carries some leaves far away, this signifies how each individual may have a different direction in life or simply, the end of someone’s life.”

„We wanted to show the polarity and tensions between safety and freedom: the plant is protected, but has to face a wall of branches surrounding it.”
